Synopsis
Barbarella is marked by the same audacity and originality, fantasy, humor, beauty and horror, cruelly and eroticism that make comic books such a favorite. The Setting is the planet Lythion in the year 40,000, when Barbarella makes a forced landing while traveling through space. She acts like a female James Bond, vanquishing evil in the forms of robots and monsters. She also rewards, in an uninhibited manner, the handsome men who assist her in the adventure. Whether she is wrestling with Black Guards, the evil Queen, or the Angel Pygar, she just can't seem to avoid losing at least part of her skin-tight space suit!

Empire Review
Does it come with mushrooms? - 3.25 out of 5  (2/12/2001)
Some movies defy time; they dance around the zones refusing to be committed. Other movies can be moved into any era with a simple update of clothes and attitudes. Yet a third type of films can be recognized for the time frame in which they are made within the first thirty seconds. "Barbarella Queen of the Galaxy" falls into the third category. Though the film is set in the year 40,000 A.D., it still screams out 1960's at the top of its lungs. Every thing about the movie is pure Kitsch.   more >>

JANE IS OFF THA CHAIN!!! - 4.5 out of 5  (11/22/2001)
The plot and movie (overall) is great.. I can't get over the intro.credits scene when JANE is floating out of her clothes.. This movie made me realize how perfect Ms. Fonda is in this flick..She has the perfect/flawless LEGS!!(Can't put an end to that intro scene)....   more >>

What is he, nuts? - 4 out of 5  (9/7/1999)
Jeff McNeal is completely missing the point. This may be Jane Fonda's ONLY shining moment of triumph. Admittedly, when I first saw this movie, as a teenager, I kept waiting for "the thing of it" to arrive. Now I realize it's all style. Clearly Jeff hasn't seen Vadim's segment in SPIRITS OF THE DEAD -- now there's something that proves her love for him. BARBARELLA is probably Vadim's finest hour, too. There are many beautifully composed shots, which go well with the overblown de   more >>
